Catholic Education Options in San Antonio

The University of the Incarnate Word is committed to educational excellence in a context of faith in Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Word of God. It promotes life-long learning and fosters the development of the whole person.  As an example of the embodiment of the UIW mission, the University has developed Brainpower Connection to share the resources of the University with an elite group of San Antonio-based schools to provide a stronger educational experience for institutions with a common philosophy we call Brainpower.

The schools in the Brainpower Connection are the University of the Incarnate Word; St. Anthony Elementary School, and its developmental pre-school, the Katherine Ryan Program; St. Peter Prince of Apostles Elementary School; Incarnate Word High School, for young women; and St. Anthony Catholic High School, for young men and women.

St. Anthony Catholic High School prepares young men and women for positions of responsibility and leadership through a college preparatory curriculum based on Catholic values and traditions.   It is a place where students learn about themselves and about ways to serve the Church and the broader community. 

Our students have 100% acceptance to colleges and universities around the country and are awarded millions of  dollars in scholarships each year.  Located in historic Monte Vista just north of downtown San Antonio, we offer dual credit courses with the University of the Incarnate Word.  Students have the opportunity to take college classes to fulfill their high school requirements and receive college credit.

The school offers both resident and day student programs at its 3200 McCullough Avenue campus in San Antonio, Texas with enrollment of approximately 440 students in grades 9 through 12.

Students compete in varsity interscholastic sports; including football, cross-country, basketball, soccer, volleyball, softball, baseball, track,  swimming, golf, lacrosse, and tennis. St. Anthony Catholic High School is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department.

In a faith-based college preparatory environment, Incarnate Word High School prepares confident young women dedicated to academic excellence, Christian service and social justice. Dedicated to academic excellence, Incarnate Word challenges students with a spiritually rewarding and intellectually demanding curriculum. The academic program is delivered by a highly qualified and dedicated faculty through a unique modular schedule that fosters the development of organizational skills and a strong sense of personal responsibility. Dual enrollment opportunities at the University of the Incarnate Word provide students the opportunity to earn college credit while completing high school requirements.

Eleven varsity sports, an award winning fine arts program, active campus ministry and music ministry programs and over 25 clubs compliment the academic program. There is “something and some place for everyone” at Incarnate Word High School.

The schools core values of academic excellence, integrity, service, community of faith, compassion and stewardship are clearly reflected in day to day life of the school. In the past three years students earned $25 million dollars in academic scholarships and provided over 75,000 hours of community service.

UIW Prep is a faith-based online high school emphasizing college preparatory and dual credit coursework.

We want to help you accelerate your student's education with dual credit courses through our university. With a 26-credit honors program, you can be sure you are getting a quality education with the unique advantages offered by a University of the Incarnate Word school.

We combine a challenging curriculum with interactive components, taught in an asynchronous manner by university-credentialed faculty. Take one class or a full course load.

The Brainpower Connection is a widening circle of support, influence, and collegiality established when five different institutions - their faculties and students - connect to share their brainpower. Shared vision, shared faculties, and shared facilities help break down the walls that traditionally separate elementary schools, high schools, and universities.

The schools in the Brainpower Connection are the University of the Incarnate Word; St. Anthony Elementary School, and its developmental pre-school, the Katherine Ryan Program; St. Peter Prince of Apostles Elementary School; Incarnate Word High School, for young women; St. Anthony Catholic High School, for young men and women; and UIW Preparatory, an online college preparatory high school. The three high schools of the Brainpower Connection are actually under the management of the University of the Incarnate Word. All employees - faculty, staff, and administration - are employees of the University. The Dean of University Collaborative Programs is the Chief Administrative Officer of the high schools and holds bottom line responsibility for each. Campus principals are on site at the high schools. The elementary schools have their own school boards.

The Brainpower Connection is coordinated by a council made up of representatives of each institution and is designed to preserve the discrete nature of each school. Incarnate Word High School, for young women, and St. Anthony Catholic High School, for young men and young women, have boarding programs for students. These programs let the boarding students experience the cultural diversity of San Antonio while enjoying a comprehensive, Catholic based education.
